THE CLINTON GLOBAL CITIZEN AWARDS
Established in 2007, the Clinton Global Citizen Awards™ embody President Bill Clinton's call to action by honoring outstanding individuals who exemplify global citizenship through their vision and leadership. These citizens have proven that diverse sectors of society can work together successfully to devise solutions that effect positive, lasting social change. Nominated by CGI members and other global leaders, honorees were chosen based on their innovative approaches, and on the demonstrated results and sustainability of their work. The awards are given to individuals who have shown ground-breaking leadership in four sectors: civil society, the corporate sector, philanthropy, and public service. Having proven their uncommon abilities to strengthen civil society, these visionaries inspire us all to take action and to become true global citizens.

ABOUT THE AWARD
Fashion icon and humanitarian Donna Karan established The Urban Zen Foundation in 2007, which embraces a holistic “past, present, and future” approach to philanthropy, using creativity, connection, and collaboration to achieve its goals. After Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, Urban Zen launched “Hope, Help & Relief Haiti,” in collaboration with leaders in music, fashion, film, finance, and art. Today, Karan works tirelessly alongside The Clinton Global Initiative to develop and support sustainable opportunities in Haiti by bringing artisan products to a global market. In collaboration with CGI and fellow international artisans, Karan developed a permanent award design for the Clinton Global Citizen Awards. She reached out to her longtime friend Nadia Swarovski of Swarovski crystal and to Cookie Villiard, a Haitian metal artist, to work together to create an award that represents the CGI logo. The handcrafted designs are an illustration of the magic that happens when individual voices are woven together to take positive action.
